Mongo concept: Gap Cup

During events you can always check how big of a gap theer is between you and teh next player (in position above you (maybe also below)). Can't see who that player is or what position you hev, just the size of teh gap. I guess time would be submitted simply by driving online so can't just withhold rec until last minute. I think it would encourage höyling, like if yuo see that you just need a few hundredths to gain a position, why not höyl just a bit more? For leader theers two options: tell him he's leading or generate a fake time.

Cool idea except donno about that leader thing. Maybe good if atleast (or only) leader knows difference to person below. Or: maybe not :F maybamybayaya.

After a litel bit of brainstorming about leader issue, Spef came up with a cool solution:

02:58:12 <Spef> if placement= odd, you see gap below, if placement= even, you see gap above

and what if you're leading and you improve by some, you will see bigger gap so you know you are leading :F

you will just know you lead the person below by more time.

If only gap above is shown and leader is given a fake random gap, the fake time would have to stay in the results when the leader beats it. So every time the leader beats a fake time, another is added to the pool. This gets messy very quickly. If fake times are simply erased when beaten, a team of two in leading positions can share their info and conclude for sure that they are in the lead. I also just don't like the idea of showing a random value to the most important position in the event.

To clarify about Spef's solution: you'd be told which gap is shown (above or below). I guess it'd be best to also show a history of gap revelations on the cup site. If that showed lots of traffic, it would mean that many mans have passed your position. In higher positions there wouldn't be so much traffic. So you could always speculate about your position but never be sure. If you had a very good time and saw gap below, I guess you could sometimes be fairly sure about being first, but I don't think you can ever be 100% certain that there isn't an even number of mans with a better time. This ofc also depends on how many (good) players there are.
