Today was strange for Norway..
Starting with Bjørgen sick and has to abort the skiathlon, then Aamodt 0.06 away from a medal in Downhill as well as damaging his knee, and then, Frode Estil falls and breaks one of his skis in the start. Seemed like a really lousy day.. And somehow Estil manages to get Silver and we get Gold and Bronze in ski jumping! Go Bystøl =)

Yeh, max grats to Sweden for your first Gold medals in Winter Olympics since the Gold on ice hockey at Lillehammer '94, and your first Gold medals at a cross country event since Calgary '88.zworqy wrote:GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD x2
Since 1/4 of the games at Torino 2006 have finished, it could be interesting to look at the top5 of the medal count so far:
Code: Select all
Pos Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
1 United States 5 2 0 7
2 Russian Federation 4 3 2 9
3 Germany 4 1 2 7
4 Sweden 2 0 0 2
5 Norway 1 5 5 11
Marit Bjørgen got ill two weeks before the olympics, and even got another illness at the start of the olympics when the previous illness had pretty much passed, so that was a big blow for Norway, as she would have been a clear gold candidate in each cross country event. Hopefully she can still manage to come back in good shape.
Kjetil Andre Aamodt hurt his knee after 15 secs of the Downhill, most probably lost a medal there and also lost oppurtinity to fight for medal chances in the Combination and, perhaps, in the Super-G event.
When Bjørgen got better, another very good medal and Gold hope, Hilde GP, got ill. These two in good shape would pretty certainly have won the sprint relay.
And our entire Nordic Combined team, except one, got ill so they cannot start in the relay, where they would have been Gold favourites.
Also we've had quite a few almost-victories. Well I still think our luck will change.. hopefully pretty soon
Nat whining =)Jeppe wrote:fakk i knew i would find a norwegian whiner hier >:] svein shat ap...
11 medals is very good, especially with those problems we've had, and also we've gotten some very nice unexpected results as Bronze in women's Half-pipe so nat whining at all. The "bad luck" with regards to illness(14-15 people gotten sick in total) is very frustrating though, but much of it is probably a result of bad management.
omagaad lock this fakk...yuo bongos onley scream medalz we know tehm idiathz...(zworqy yuo shat ap anywayz) sum talkz about teh hokki :I i think iz ganna be tight liek ass trought totempolez.my prediction iz liek.

Thoughts for tomorrow:
First off is women's relay 4*5km. I do believe Norway to be the favorites here, but the Russians always do very well in relays. The Canadians might be an outsider here perhaps, also hopefully Sweden and Finland will do well.
Then there's the men's Super G. My tip for the win would be Hermann Maier. Kjetil Andre Aamodt, who won in Salt Lake, probably has got a setback from his injury, but I hope he'll be in top shape and do well and maybe get a medal.
Women's 10km biathlon pursuit then. This is an extremely open competition I feel, with many possible winners. Olofsson, Zubrilova, Bailly and Wilhelm might be the strongest ones. Also I have a hope for Liv Grete Poiree of course
Men's pursuit then, here I think, and hope, either Halvard Hanevold or Frode Andresen will take home the Gold. But Sven Fischer seemed very strong indeed on the sprint.
Men's ski jump big hill then.. Actually, I hope Janne Ahonen wins this. He really deserves an Olympic Gold medal, having been among the absolute best for 12 years, and by far the best and most stable jumper the past years. Norways jumpers will also do well I think.
Men's 1000m speed skating. I really hope Jeremy Wotherspoon can win this one, noone there deserves the Gold more than him. I'm afraid he won't get it though, and that it will go to Joey Cheek or Shani Davis from USA. Norway's Even Wetten might get inside the top5.

YEAH, this was a good day =) Gold, Silver and Bronze. And Aamodt... it's just amazing. Lost for words really. Wins Gold in the Super-G with a damaged knee. 8 olympic medals. 20 championship medals. 4 olympic gold medals.. with 14 years from the first to the last.. amazing..
Let's see then, half of the Torino 2006 events have finished, what's the top5 situation now:
Still Norway has most Silver, most Bronze and most medals altogether \o. The top3 seem pretty clear now, rest is more open.

They did. But easy match against the Swiss? They can't be that bad when they beat Czech Republic and Canada...Rex wrote:sweden should do tactical lose againts slovakia so ez match against swisses
..and OMG what a leg Ole Einar Bjørndalen did in the biathlon relay today. It should not be possible to be 1 minute faster than the rest of the field over 7,5km. Too bad the rest of the team failed. And too bad about Sweden not getting that Bronze..
