..and OMG what a leg Ole Einar Bjørndalen did in the biathlon relay today. It should not be possible to be 1 minute faster than the rest of the field over 7,5km. Too bad the rest of the team failed. And too bad about Sweden not getting that Bronze..

Maybe-but should a wintersports nation like Norway not have more than only two gold medals? Especially at biathlon and ski touring (I hope that's the correct word, had to look it up.) they performed badly.SveinR wrote:9 more medals and we equal our record from Lillehammer of 26 medals altogether..Lepton wrote: And Norway is doing bad.
Germany has already 21 medals-nice. Let's see if Anni Friesinger and Claudia Künzel can even improve the statistics today...

Gold in Curling =)
Switzerland was really good, especially Miriam Ott. Exciting through the whole match.

Erhm, what? Mika Myllylä and Bjørndalen weren't even competing in the same sport. And Myllylä was doped ;(Rex wrote:only myllylä was tough opponent to him :/
Yes, we should have more than two Gold medals. If this was held last winter we would have had. And in men's biathlon Norway has not performed badly at all - we have taken 6 medals there (Germany has 5). And in a sport where the margins are so small, where a few milli meters are the deciding factor, one can't really expect any Gold medals.Lepton wrote:but should a wintersports nation like Norway not have more than only two gold medals? It's mainly in cross country skiing where Norway has underperformed - their goal was to take 7 Gold medals, and they have ended up with 3 Silver and one Bronze.
The final medal table (top10 + Norway and Finland):
Germany the top country again, as they were in 1998 and 1992.
Main grats goes to Sweden who has done its best Winter Olympics ever, which is very impressive. At least Norway is better than Sweden in Summer Olympics
I see some people saying it was a max olympics, however, I've found the other to be better ('94, '98 and '02, i don't much remember '92). There wasn't too much of the promised "Passion" among the locals and the audience, as compared to what it was been in the previous olympics. Seeing some of the stadiums not even half filled with people is not very good.
And Norway has more Bronze medals than ever before \o/

If this was a reply to me:tijsjoris wrote:I don't agree with what you say about the medal thing. Maybe with the bobsleigh it only differed 13 hundreds, but let's take a look at the differences at the other sports. De Jong beat Hedrick with 4 secs, Sweden won a gold medal in the biathlon with quite some seconds to spare, and so on.
I was strictly talking about biathlon, and there the margins are indeed a few millimeters. For example, Bjørndalen's three medals could all easily have been Gold medals with one miss less in each event. And the difference between a hit and a miss on a biathlon target is not large, and a few milli meters can be decisive.
Well, that sounds as if you must be lucky to win at Biathlon and that only fortune caused the Germans to win so many Gold medals. But this is not true. This is a sport about precision and concentration, and about good tactics. And the Germans, especially Michael Greis and Kati Wilhelm proved to be the best-Wilhelm is dominating the whole winter, not only the Olympic Games.SveinR wrote:And in a sport where the margins are so small, where a few milli meters are the deciding factor, one can't really expect any Gold medals.
How can someone have the goal to take 7 Gold medals? Sure it is possible to do that if everything works fine, but to take this as goal is rather arrogant, I think. As if only the Norwegians were good at that...their goal was to take 7 Gold medals, and they have ended up with 3 Silver and one Bronze.
Anyway, it was a nice Olympics. Nothing special (like Lillehammer), but still nice.
Of course. I just meant that you can't "count on" your country or some athletes to win since one tiny error can be fatal. Like in ski jumping or slalom. Whereas in for instance cross country 15km individual start, tiny errors aren't that fatal and you can be much more certain that a certain athlete will do well (unless the country's ski waxers puts on a completely wrong wax and destroys all that country's athletes chances of doing well.... ;S)Lepton wrote:Well, that sounds as if you must be lucky to win at Biathlon and that only fortune caused the Germans to win so many Gold medals.
