Possible Finnish Elma meeting 2010

Post by ville_j »

Originally this idea arose when niN told me that he had applied into a school in Finland. We immediately agreed that if he got accepted into the school, we'd have a small meeting some day. While we discussed more about it, it came to a conclusion that maybe more people would want join us. Now that niN got accepted into the school and is going to stay in Finland for a while, we thought it would be good to open a discussion here in lauta.

So, who would be willing to take a part in the meeting? This is just to know if any other people would even want to have a meeting. I think there are many potential Finnish (and maybe also other nations) players who could join us, you're all "invited".

Second thing we must discuss about is the place of the meeting. Anyone got some nice suggestions or even a place to offer? The school where niN goes is located in Kruunupyy, so I think some place near that would be good. His "apartment" is not suitable for the meeting. Traveling isn't much of a problem for me, but ofc the closer the cheaper. I live in Oulu which is few hundred kilometers away from Kruunupyy. I have no idea what kind of place would be good for the meeting because we don't know at all how many people are coming. And I consider this to be a meeting where we'd do all kinds of things (outdoor activity etc), but not forgetting Elma. However, I will not be able to take my computer with me or anything like that. I would just like to meet other people and have a nice conversations, because I've never met any kuskis irl. The timing of the possible meeting is very much unknown, you can give suggestions.

So, what are your thoughts? Give some comments so we can maybe start thinking this thing through.

I'm also in(terested), of course depending on the possible dates. When is niN coming to Finland? (I assumed he's not here quite yet)

Kokkola, Kruunupyy and Jyväskylä all sound good to me. As roope said, both Kokkola and Jyväskylä are "elmatowns", so people living there might also have some ideas for the venue.

I'm interested, but never met any online people irl so would be sick to jump straight to a big meet with whole elma in etc. And another side is that how could i come and the Pawq -impossibility, parents, is also affecting on me very much. Of course it would be awe(some). ;)

Welcome to Jyväskylä =)

Shouldn't we rent a summer cottage like they did in the previous Finnish elma meetings?

The summer cottage sounds awesome. Let's look into prices!

Zweq you gotta come man! you just gotta, ok?

I will move to Finland in august, the 16th. However, I will be out in the woods and mountains and whatever you got there almost every day except some holidays (2 + 2 weeks and also summer and Christmas holidays), some weekends might also work for me. But it's impossible for me to know the dates until I've met the people I will study with. Perhaps we will have some 'get to know each other week' or something, and I wouldn't want to miss that. So I will most likely know what dates I can around the end of August/beginning of September.

Also, I can bring my laptop but no screens and such, so other activities sounds awesome! like the Elma football championship, or other max championships!

This can be max, you gotta come. you just gotta!

Surely I'm interested, been to every arranged FEM since 2002. I suppose cottage is the only solution, unless Zweq's mom's basement is big. The date (any during from late August to October) can be a bit of a problem for me though, but I'll try to make it happen.

I'm in. Any city suits me, i travel with car from Kuopio so i can pick up ppl on the way. You need to rent big enough cottage, there will be quite alot ppl coming i guess. And for a week preferably or an extended weekend (like thu-mon), a weekend is too short.

Listen, we people of elma will get along very good in real life i belive. It's not everyone that playes this game like we do. It requires something of you to spend so much of your time to this scene. Therefore meetings would be the best things in your real life experiences aswell. Think about it!

Ok, so it seems many people are interested and this could get even bigger than I had expected. But if we're gonna make it big, it needs some organizing and planning. The problem is that niN doesn't know much about his school and stuff so we can't yet set a date for the meeting. However I think we can all agree it would be around late September/October.. November? I don't have school in week 43 (25.10–29.10.) and I think other Finnish people have a vacation somewhere around that too, so it could be a potential date to begin with. But it also means that it will be harder to get a cottage in that period. Originally I thought any weekend would be suitable, but if this many people are coming we indeed need to get some kind of a cottage and need more days than just a normal weekend.

Jyväskylä (or somewhere near it) sounds good to me for the meeting. You who live around there could maybe suggest some places where we could get a cottage? I will look into it myself but I guess you'd know better. And what other activities could we possibly do besides laying around the cottage? I mean I really want to do also other stuff than just play elma and watch others playing it. Also, does many (or any) of you have a car to use? I bet the cottage won't be near the railway/bus station and it would be easier to travel there with a car. Or... I don't know, let's see where we can find a suitable cottage =)

And yesh, you will be having the time of your life in meeting, so come, come!

Yes, I think those dates are pretty good to aim for. It's a little shame we won't be able to catch the summer, but it is what it is. And remember as a hard working student I will barely have enough money for food, so it might be hard for me to pay a lot for this meeting.

I think it's hard to find places really close to big towns but if it's acceptable that the place is far from a big town it's easy to find places: http://www.webinfojyvaskyla.fi/matkailu ... kivuokraus

Forgot to answer to this. I checked nom's links and they seem to be quite good. However, I have not talked to niN in a while, haven't seen him online lately so I have no idea what his plans are. Also I've been quite busy with school and work and haven't been able to think this much. It might just be that I have to be working on my vacation in October. Well, this surely needs more planning, discussion and so on, I think October/November is coming too soon and we should probably start thinking some possible dates in 2011.
