GAA 2017 PUBLIC VOTING IS ON!

Go vote at http://gaa.elmaonline.net/vote/

To vote, drag your top 5 favorites in order into the voting slots in the voting page. You don't have to vote in every category but if you do vote in some category you must pick a full top 5. The point is: choose top 5 or nothing. Remember, only vote for what happened in the GAA period (the year 2017)! After voting the website will give you a key, which you should send to Kopaka with one of the following ways:

1. Via Mopolauta with a private message. Note: if you want to use this your Mopolauta account has to be registered before the start of the first step!
2. Via IRC with a private message to Kopaka @ IRCnet
3. Via Elma Online site, with a private comment on Kopaka's profile
4. To Kopaka in discord (Sune#7046)

The nominees are updated in the first post of this topic, and are of course shown in the voting site.

The deadline for sending your votes is Tuesday 20th February, 23:59 EET (GMT+2), and the final show will be held on Sunday 25th, 20:00.

I'm also quite surprised to see myself nominated in designer category, having only designed one level pack this year. Umiz should have deserved a nomination. But anyway, thanks for nomination! :)

Yeah so could you explain to me how it's a good thing that umiz wasn't nominated? OR Ramone's wcup level?

I'm not making a huge thing out of it, don't worry. This is the first time the community has shown much appreciation for my efforts so I think it makes sense to be allowed to vote for what is actually appreciated.

This is not some holy-not-allowed-to-critizise acitivty.

Please note that the category we're talking about is Art, not Your favourite thing this year. Whether humour presented as captions on old pictures can be recognised as art is disputable.

No, it's not a holy-not-allowed-to-critizise acitivty. Feedback is welcome, and in fact corrections were made this year following comments from the community, as unfortunately a few mistakes were made (some were my fault - apologies once again). But this activity depends on the good will of the organisers, so some appreciation is always welcome.

Four years ago GAA got postponed until October, because the organisers were busy with life, or some other trifle. Lots of people complained back then. What if we didn't get together and organise it this year?

I'd personally be overjoyed if people focused on who and what was nominated and choosing their favourites and then voting and enjoying the show, rather than focusing on what they would've liked to see nominated that wasn't. The latter is quite counterproductive to the whole endeavour.

Thanks and peace out!

PS. We always notice those who do show appreciation, thanks to you all, we're doing our best :*

ABOUT HOW THE UNAWARE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN DECEIVED BEHIND THEIR BACKS

the Golden Apple Awards 2017 has already happened and the results are fixed but the jury pretends it is ongoing. all our effort to vote is pointless. didnt expect that such an important event is treated this way and that it was being hidden. but i have found out reliable sources.

Congratulations to all winners and the rest and big thanks to staff for organising it.

While most of stuff was good imo, as Lousku pointed out in chat some categories are more difficult to vote than others. :( Something like Replay is pretty straightforward to vote, while Battler isn't at all. Layout and presentation of nominees on voting site definitely need to be reworked for some categories. For example while Externalist got some info, it's very difficult to understand because it's so cluttered. On the other hand Battler lacks any context whatsoever. Also it would be nice to have categories better explained, not just Breakthrough or Collaboration or Battle Replay(is it just replay from battle or after battle replays are also included?). It's not always clear what am I voting for. :|

It's generally expected that GAA voting site is only one resource used for informing voters, and not the main resource in any case. If you want to educate self on best battlers, there are an array of other statistics and resources available for you to learn such things. While we don't expect all voters to spend hours on elmaonline.net reading battle stats to best inform self on votes, certainly we hope that people aren't visiting the voting site with literally 0 idea of who is worthy voter, and only utilising the information on the voting platform to inform them.

I do kinda agree that the presentation of information in Externalist wasn't the best. Only putting just these contest results leaves away a lot and isn't very nice to look at. For example adi's bread and butter is the insane amount of pipes (and especially very hard ones) he finishes, which is nowhere to be seen in the description. Sure, everyone knows adi does play a lot of pipes, but when it's a core part of his identity as an externalist it seems a bit silly to leave that out.

I'm licking my own balls here but I do prefer the way it was last year; mostly the same information with a bit of flair instead of cold hard placements
Externalist
adi - With 2000+ WRs (84% of all pipes on EOL) is on first place in Pipe Stats. Finished thousands of pipes during the year, including some of the longest and hardest ones ever made. Dominated Elma 3.0 pack and got world records in other big packs of 2016
AndrY_ - Improved a lot during the year and got world records in his own Elma 3.0 pack and Stolen internals. Was top 5 in 32Cup
Boomer - Did a good job on many old school level packs and is a hardworking piper
Finman - Got 2nd place in 32Cup and with 15 1st places out of 32 levels and made some impact in Repeat, Elma 3.0 pack, and Stolen Internals
Hosp - Most world records and best total time in Repeat, kept improving in AI pack, hoyled himself to 2nd place in BBLP total time and points
RearNakedChoke - Diligent piper, nice progression with mawpi project and is already finishing longer ones
Pawq - Another diligent piper, is 2nd in pipes finished according to Pipe Stats
roope - All-around externalist with world records in big packs of 2016 like Elma 3.0, Stolen Internals and 32Cup. Active pipe finisher
ville_j - Absolute domination in niilo pack
Zero - Won 32Cup with 14 1st places. Most WRs in Brutal Bounce Level Pack and in Stolen Internals. Finished some of the hardest pipes made
Naturally it is hard for even jury members to keep track of what did players do outside of what can be easily looked back when deciding nominees (like contests for Externalist), but that's why it's super important for the players to give good descriptions about why they think someone should be nominated in the suggestion phase.

Idea for next year: put NO descriptions in the voting site, and instead have a place (lauta/GAA site) with a list of nominees and comprehensive information about them - both descriptions and stats. Then can really go overkill with the info, and put both some warm words and some cold stats. E.g. for Designer can say that umiz is a hot babe but also quote the number of eol battles started etc.

And we can take the people who only look at the voting site and change their lauta status to "too lazy for GAA"

Re: Golden Apple Awards 2017 - [5] Final show TODAY

Was it necessary to quote the entire post...?

Afaik last year the vote counts were not shared on purpose, but maybe it would be a good idea to back-release vote counts for the previous GAAs if somebody still has them? I think: why not

I wasn't jury in 2016 either, but they have already explicitly said like 10+ times that they aren't sharing vote counts. Sounds pretty final to me x)

Nice GAA, thanks to all who put effort into it!

Seeing the top 5 results gives you the feeling that every vote counts. There were such tight categories that even one tiny choice can make the difference. Sad that I lost my votes, but at least seeing the list gives you the motivation to vote next year.

Yeah, it's frustrating to have that issue happen for you. I was sorry to hear that had happened. I hope that your votes were even more similar than Tm's to the final results!

Where can I see the replays and saveload replays. Even if I view online in web browser and not open ELMA would be great to see.

Was thinking I'd get nominated for the Ghosted award. Haven't been online as life gets busy but congrats to all the winners and nominees.
