my roxxor keys: :D

Arrows: left, gas, right
Left ALT: brake
Numpad0: alovolt
Space: turning

u don't need to move any button, every finger has own button so u can only concentrate on driving.
the keys gas/brake on up/down are most used i guess.. really wonder why ppl want to make it so hard.
let's say you're going an uphill part of some level, and you should not release gas (slower often), instead pushing yourself up with brake+gas+swing simultaneously, isn't it a but difficult to handle with 2 buttons ?

changing buttons

Post by Karlis »

of course it would be faster, cos you loose a lot of time(maybe even hundreds) to move finger from gas to brake. I've tried to change, but after all these years it's hard, can't control the bike at all, so weird..

earlier today I was thinking about playing all the levels thru with the new buttons. höylin' all the internals thru few times should help, if not, then I'll give up and höyl with these veteranbuttons like hell, just like always.

Not hundreds but 0.2 seconds. Thrust me, it's true. Just take a clock where you can count time with 0.01 accurate. Then start the clock and stop it as quickly as you can. My record is 0.15 and I bet you cannot do it much faster. And in Elma you have to even change the button so it takes more time.

I use arrows, space and §½ for alovolting. I'm stupid.

Of course it doesn't mean that you could drive 13,92 in Warm Up or something. No, no. You understood every time you brake you would lose 0.2? No, I didn't mean that but the braking takes a little bit more time and in most cases it doesn't affect to result but anyway it's more unaccurate and therefore worse.

I use:

Num8 - fwd
Num5 - bak
Num4 - left
Num6 - right
Ctrl - turn
Space - alovolt
Esc - quit

Would be good if I could configure a different button to act as esc. it's too far away :o

it should be quite easy to make a program that tests your speed moving your finger from arrow up to arrow down. a timer clock has totally different buttons so u can't really compare it.

I use the standard buttons + A for Alovolt. Not really because A = Alovolt, but since that's where my index finger is anyway. (I use my left thumb to press space (=brake)).

To get a good time the most important thing is to use keys that gives you the right feeling, not keys you can press as fast as possible

gas=up arrow
left volt=left arrow
right volt=right arrow
brake=down arrow
turn=space
alovolt= 1 (not numpad1, the 1 above letter "Q")

My controls are simple, but easy to use.
They´re almost like default:

Throttle: Up Arrow
Brake: Down Arrow
Left: ->
Right: <-
Direction: Right Ctrl
Alovolt: Right Shift

Easy to use, if you´ve used ´em since you started :D
I think that shift is a good posisition for Alovolt, its right at you´re finger.

I use
left arrow
right arrow
up arrow
down arrow
space for turning
and Q for alovolt

to have the alo in Q is best, cus then u have spacebar at the thumb and my middle finger at escape, so Q is right between =)

when i play FreeFall, i use home, end, delete and pagedown, or else i cant hold <- and brake at the same time =/

FM style, whats thet?
All my friends think its pretty fucked up too.
Here´s why i use those controls:
The first time i tried the shareware version at one of my friends,
i was looking at the controls under options.
Then i said to him, if it was ok if i changed his controls, and he said ok.
He was using some other controls, numpad.
And then because i just wanted to get started, i just typed in the wrong controls, but i thought it was the right ones!
He said that it was very difficult, and because of my mistake with the controls, i said: Damn, yes its hard!
Ever since i´ve used thos controls.

But, i feel very abnormal when i look at your´s and everbody elses controls. So, i think i´ll try to use the default :lol:
Though, i think it will be very hard, cos im used to these controls :wink:

unless you are also playin one handed (which i doubt) it seems stupid to have you direction and alovolt keys on the right side of your keyboard, it means u either sit with both hands cramped in the middle of your body sitting to one side of the keyboard or you have one hand crossed rite across ur body. this connnot be comfortable and must lead to cramping in your fingers/hands while you play
