I can start it but lagging way too much. I never remember that and when starting to play it I get depressed realizing I cannot play :(.

Wasn't there some option in XP where you can adjust some settings to get older games to work?

Across in WinXP

Disable sound in setup... It's still laggy but doesn't freeze at the flower
Run in compatibility mode W95, 640*480 and 256 colors checked at
compatibility tab.

Across->Properties->Memory

That may help if DOS4GW crashs.

If I alt + tab from Across to IRC and back to Across the game is pretty often faster. Like 2 or 4 times faster and I cannot change it back without quitting the game. However that's not that big problem compared to the lagging I'm still having.

I cant install XP because of some kinda problem with my HD.
But at one of my friends, he can play Across in XP without any problems.

Oh, this is my first post!

dz, Put an empty diskette in your drive.
Rigth click on your diskette drive and chose format.
Enable: make a MS-DOS Start diskette.
Then click Start and it makes a diskette you can boot your PC on, when you do tihs it starts in DOS and for me Across works, and don't freeze when you ouch the flower.

i couldn't even play across in win98 when installed it. but i had exact same problem as in winxp. tried mem settings and everything, nothing worked.

THEN I FIXED IT!!!
i dunno if it works in winxp, but it's the simplest thing of all. run the across setup file, and select sound off. or perhaps even set the sound settings right the old fashion DOS way. works for me anyway. good lutch.

i see it has already been suggested. it works for me with correct sound settings anyway. maybe you need to set the dos settings for dos4gw too.

i just made it work. first i disabled sound, fixed vga settings in setup.exe. then on across.exe, i did compability mode, checked all boxes. it works.

edit: it's super fast.

edit: not always super fast. nothing new.

have you ever tried to play across on xp? if you are experiencing problems, you should go to the Dir Operating System, by formatting a special-DOS floppy disk by selecting this option, and before booting on MS-DOS you might want to create a partition just to play this game (format the new drive using the FAT32 format), so you might need this software:
http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/

Now you should obtain a new "virtual" hard disk, you can create a folder in it, by example: "Action Supercross"

in your MS-DOS booting disk, you can even add this simple file, to make it easier for you in the future:

click start button
Run... (Execute)
"notepad"
and type the following in it:

@echo off - this one's superficial
c: - your across drive letter (on DOS)
cd action~1 - the command used to change directory, to Action Supercross
across - to run the across.exe file

then you press "CTRL+S" and enter the following filename: "across.bat"

but in prerequisite, you should run the setup.exe file on DOS to prevent any sound card error while starting the game

so you should just have, to play across on the DOS, to insert the floppy while restarting your engine and when it prompts you, simply type in "across" and press enter to get into it

I think it's easier to use right click on across.exe and choose compatibality -> windows 95 or something, and it will run smooth.
