Programming

Post by The_BoneLESS »

I started College yesterday and i got a programming class...

Harder than i thought because most of the students already have skills in Visual Basic.net ( the program we use ) and i have none

I never got those kinda classes in high school so , i'm a little lost but it's fun

I learn and i can do very basic things now...

1. Do you make some programming ? ( not necessarly VB.net )
2. Which program do you use ?
3. What's your greatest programming achievement ?

2. SharpDevelop, Sun ONE Studio etc.
3. TableCreator ;) :P

1. Know java and a fair bit of VB. Also learning PICassembler at the moment. Assembler gives you so much control.
2. Jens' File Editor
3. Probably minesweeper in java

1. I've been programming for a long time now (relatively) but not seriously... I'm learning vb.net now and i'm gonna take the MCP soon. I'm also specializing with directx.
2. vb.net mostly; no c at all
3. dunno

i started with mirc scripting and so far it's the only thing i made something good in. however i know javascript, c, tcl, which isnt far from saying java and php. if (i know some language) i also know some about others. well i know some lingo too, from shockwave. what else? i tried many, can't remember.

well in tcl i worked with eggdrops; bots on irc. i made chat bots, which were programs you could talk to. it's hard to say if they resulted any good, because they were at least as good as any other that i've seen. also some were megahal combinations.

so most things that i have had any use for is in irc. i made a bot that saves topics in channels that dont allow them, and saves them on file too as logging. i have made a colour script in mirc, that makes randomly colourful text. also i made a similar script that makes colourful text in bb/ipb code. i made a menu that sends the current song im playing in winamp to whoever i want to send it to. i also made the first battle script for elma battles.

also i have done a game in java: http://home.swipnet.se/technomilk/ent/jerker.html

and on that site's index i made a navigator thingy.

I do some programming too, started with java. Now the most of the time I'm modelling for school with a mathemathical programm called Matlab R12.
My biggest achievement is when I played a dutch f1 simulating game, called F1competition. I programmed about 300 lines which simulated the game in detail. It calculated for me what would be the perfect strategy in a race which was absolutely impossible to do with normal calculator. After 6 months playing the game I was first in standings of 12.000 participants, what was pretty cool. I told at the forum I used a simulation and others didn't think it was cool so I stopped with the game.

there are many different programming languages, when they say, "what is elma written in" then mean, what language is it programmed in.

yes, elma is written in C++

you could do this in a simplier way :

Code: Select all

int main()
{
	int i,t,x1,x2,j,k;
	cin >> t;
	for (i=0;i<t;i++)
	{
		string s,s1,s2;
		cin >> s1 >> s2;
		x1=s1.length();
		x2=s2.length();

		if (x1==x2)
		{
			s.resize(x1+x2) ;
			for(k=0;k<x1;k++)
			{
				s[2*k] = s1[k] ;
				s[2*k+1] = s2[k] ;
			}

			cout << s << endl;
		}

	}
	system("PAUSE");
	return 0;
}

C++, java and php. If someone counts html/css programming too, then those two too.

I use notepad++ for php, visual studio for C++ (because of the school) and JCreator for java.

I hev not yet made anything I would like to share with anyone.

nice topic

1. Do you make some programming?
ActionScript, Assembler, C, C++, Java (basics), JavaScript, Object Pascal, Pascal, Perl (basics, hate teh), PHP, SQL (basics). CSS, HTML, XML/XSLt, mircscript if someone counts them. Tried python but failed, not for me. Wrote couple of programs in Basic but didn't remember the language.

2. Which program do you use?
Notepad++, gedit, vim, Eclipse, Delphi 4-7, fasm, gcc, MVC++ 6-9, Turbo Pascal 7.

3. What's your greatest programming achievement?
What counts for greatest achievment - size, popularity, complexity, profit? The biggest program was about 3000 lines, kinda database for insurance company. Most popular were hacking tasks for computer security contest, I think. Complexity is hard to estimate, most complex are probably various patches for other programs. Most profitable are definitely sites and various databases but I haven't made any fortune with programming. What I am really proud of? Nothing :/

I used to program a lot years ago, when i was 10 or so. I programmed in a language made for game development, called DIV.
2. Which program do you use ?
There was only one program for DIV, div itself, it included everything to make games (graphic editor, text editor, compiler, etc)
3. What's your greatest programming achievement ?
Lots of mini games that were not awesome at all but i was really happy playing them :mrgreen:

I also used Qbasic, it was my first programmin language :) I miss DOS...

i just started learning some javascript. so far i've only learned the basics from w3schools.com. with my small amount of knowledge i had a go at making a script that links a random css file each time the page is loaded. for testing purposes i made three css files (red.css, green.css, blue.css). this is my attempt:

Code: Select all

var cssName=['red','green','blue'];
var whichCss=Math.floor(Math.random()*3);
document.write("<link rel=\"stylesheet\" href=\""+cssName[whichCss]+".css\" type=\"text/css\" />");
this is an externally linked script in the <head> tags. it seems to work okay, but i'm no pro. did i do anything wrong here, or is it all legit?

That seems right. However, I don't like using document.write at all. I always append elements to other elements, or change an attribute of an existing element. In your example I would do like this:

Code: Select all

var stylesheet = //name of the stylesheet;
document.getElementsByTagName('link')[0].setAttribute('href',stylesheet):
I don't know which one is better though. Don't even know how the document.write works actually. Where in the document does it write the thing you want to write with it.. o,o

Anyways, I've also been very into JavaScript lately. To be more precise, Ajax. JavaScript can be sometimes a bitch, I don't like it very much.

thanks vj :)
atleast with changing just the href attribute, i can still have a linked stylesheet even if the user has javascript disabled.

Code: Select all

var cssName=['red','green','blue'];
var ranCss=Math.floor(Math.random()*3);
document.getElementsByTagName('link')[0].href=cssName[ranCss]+".css";

Not exactly programming but I want to make a decent excel file and something is bugging me.

I'll explain you as it is: it is for League of Legends, it's like a helper to maximize your efficiency by giving you the best items to use in order to achieve the most damage output/tanking/whatever you want. You choose your champion and then it gives you your base stats (health, mana, armor, magic resist, movement speed, there are 10-20 of them). And then, you enter the further modifications from runes, masteries and stuff I don't need to go in detail with. The problem is that each champion has different stats and I'd want it to change them when you choose your champion. Like, let's say you pick Igge, then it will show his health, mana, etc. and if you change to Pawq, then it will show his health, mana, etc.

The problem I encounter is that I can't configure the cells to calculate something out of other cells, located elsewhere on the sheet, depending on the champion chosen. Like, Champion A is on the line 2, all his stats are from AA2 to AM2, let's say, and for the Health cell I need the AA2 and AB2 ones. Champion B is on the line 3, so I need the AA3 and AB3 ones.

Basically it would be, if champ A is chosen, use AA2 and AB2, and if champ B is chosen, use AA3 and AB3. It's not as simple as a If case in reality, because there aren't 2 champions, there are FIFTY-SIX. Imagine the pain writing 55 if's? For each stat?

So, I think there should be a pattern, like, the first champion has the first line and the 56th has the 56th line. But how do you make the cells use the right values without using 55 if's?

I could attach the file if needed.

I made this nice little number puzzle game: http://oktobia.org/playground/numberpuzzle/. Very much inspired by Tetravex, yes. Play and get to the Top scores-list!
