Finnish Elma Meeting 2005

Post by Abula »

This time we have to start the meeting planning as early as possible so here we go.

General
Finnish Elma Meeting (FEM) is a traditional yearly happening event where some (usually) Finnish Elma players are gathered to meet other players and have fun. So far there have been five of them.

History
June 2000, participators: bluu, Conny, Karlis, kuiva, PeXi and Tisk, place: Ulvila, Tisk's home
May 2001, participators: Abula, bluu, Karlis, kuiva, Mikko, Nikke, PeXi, Tisk, Toble, Tuska, place: Nokia, Toble's home
August 2002, participators: Abula, Tisk, dz, Karlis, kuiva, mrickx, mr, Orcc, Jokke, place: Lammi, rent summer cottage
June 2003, participators: Abula, Karlis, mr, Tisk, px, Orcc, Jokke, Pallukka, terb0, Hapa, Tapzu, place: Polvijärvi (near to Joensuu), summer cottage in Sotkuma
July 2004, participators: Abula, Karlis, mr, Tisk, Orcc, Jokke, terb0, psy, Luther, ramone, krychek, Juzam, axxu, vender, dz, MP, place: Lammi, rent summer cottage

More details, reports and pictures here.

2005 (Updated 23. Apr 2005)
Place: Leivonmäki, Rutalahti, near to Jyväskylä
Date: 13.-20. June 2005
Duration: 1 week
Participators: http://www.pulu.org/fem05
URL: http://www.huvila.net/cgi-bin/pager.cgi?huvila=257

Above information will be edited when needed.

---

We have talked in #across and quite many people are interested in joining. We have estimated to get even more than 20 people there. At least skint0r, TorInge, Jalli, John, milagros and Zweq have been keen - of the big names. Now we want to hear your realistic thoughts. Would you realle come?

It's not easy to get place for 20 people with computers. We have thought this cottage: http://www.huvila.net/cgi-bin/pager.cgi ... ieli=suomi It's pretty expensive cottage and popular so actually we should rent it quite soon... Some people wanted it for one week which would cost 600e. You could spend there the whole week or just a couple of days as you want and pay for only spent time.

All this is pretty hard work for organizers and mr didn't like the idea to do all himself this time which is more than understanable.

Some prepay may be compulsory thing this time. 10e for example. You have to pay that to get the place and you'll lose that if you won't come. Or something. All this just because we cannot wait this time: "I think I can come but not sure yet", "I want to see who else will join" etc. Any other solutions?

Orcc will go to army in July so we prefer May and June.

Edit: MP is back from army and Juzam will go on January 2006.

If we only can arrange this so that army won't be a problem, I'm in, just like the last three years :)

According to my plan I'm done with my civil service the 25th May, so It needs to be in June or later for me to come at least. It also depends on wether someone can drive me there, it's the only big obstacle for me :X. I want to bring own computer, and there's no way I'm dragging that around in airports or trains.

I really want to come but it doesn't look too good anymore now :\.

that is so far into future. I can´t know what I want then. Maybe I don´t even play elma (I know no one will believe this) but otherwise it would be cool. At the moment zweq/tor are so great players I really wanna see them play. :D
So zweq, are you coming?

Of course you can arrange a meeting in Sweden, but this one is _Finnish_ Elma Meeting after all. Why not make a topic about your own in Sweden?

Well FEM is a tradition, so I guess your idea is not very likely to be heard too.

I've been thinking some. We have two opportunies to arrange the FEM05.

1) Only for smaller group (about 15 is max) where the first 15 can join. The we don't have to worry about the cottage yet. For reserving a place in the meeting the person has to pay a prepay fee which could be 30% of the entire price, for example. And the person will lose the money no matter if he comes or not. Let's say we got all 15 people coming and they paid the 30% of their personal price but only 10 of them can come then we still have to pay 70% of the entire price which means it's more money than if all the 15 came but still it's not that much because we have some money from the guys who were coming but didn't. In this case we the meeting would last 3-4 days. This opportunity would be quite same concept as FEM03 but we only limit the number of perticipants.

Good: safer, no one will lose much money in any case, we will arrange the meeting more likely
Bad: you have to know if you can come (the earlier you know the better chance you get to join), you may lose some money eventhough you can't come afterall

2) We rent the big cottage and will collect some money as prepay from people before some deadline (pretty soon). This cottage can get like 30 people in. We will rent the cottage for a week so you can stay there for a few days or whole week, as you wish. In this case we have be to be absolute sure that at least 20 people will come and even then the price would be quite big for one person since the cottage costs 880e unless we get enough prepay money. OR maybe somebody could donate some money if he had any extra (depending on the amount of the donation we can arrange the meeting eventhough only 5-20 people can come). Would be great to get Moposite as a sponsor if we only had any money ourselves =). In the future we could support real Elma meetings with 20% or 200e or something if we found some money. Briefly: in this case we need about 300e money before we can rent the cottage. Also the renting has to be done pretty soon.

Bad: we have to rent the cottage pretty soon, we need lots of money before we can rent the cottage
Good: everybody can join, or at least 30 people

Date
Summer or autumn? In summer some people have vacation and some people are summer-working. In autumn most people are in school. At least for me the autumn would be a better choice. If I'll get a nice job for the summer I'm afraid I can't take off one week but from school it's very easy. In fact I think in general people can skip one week from the school more easily than from job. Am I wrong?[/b]

I know people aren't interested in this now and they (you) think "let's see what other people will do" but honestly I think we have to face one of these choices. 1 or 2. Now. Otherwise there won't be any big FEM05, just some FM + buddies.

Oh, and at least by my experience it's way easier to take a week off from job than from school, but maybe that's just me. I'd prefer it in the summer at least, but not a big deal.

skint0r donated 250e. I think we can choose the choice 2. I'm waiting for the reply of the renter of the cottage.

For XTC:

In case you are not 18 years old you need a literal approval of your parent. You are not allowed to use drugs there or anything else that breaks the Finnish laws.

Not sure if there's any point, but perhaps if people made some kind of list about what dates are most suitable for them, we might get some idea of what dates are good. I guess that was sort of the point with Abula's post anyway. Maybe not necessarily as detailed as this, but here's mine at least:

Green are best dates, orange is sort of open/ok/not sure, red is nat pasibel :X

May 2005
1) 30. - 7. (630e)
2) 7. - 14. (630e)
3) 14. - 21. (630e)
4) 21. - 28. (630e)

June 2005
5) 28. - 4. (630e)
6) 4. - 11. (880e)
7) 11. - 18. (880e)
8) 18. - 25. (880e)
9) 25. - 2. (880e)

July 2005
10) 2. - 9. (880e)
11) 9. - 16. (880e)

August 2005
12) 30. - 6. (950e, Neste Rally)
13) 15. - 22. (880e)
14) 22. - 29. (880e)

September 2005
15) 29. - 5. (880e)
16) 5. - 12. (600e)
17) 12. - 19. (600e)
18) 19. - 26. (600e)
19) 26. - 3. (600e)

October 2005

Yes please tell or do as skint0r did you know. I can't say myself because it all depends whether I get a job or not (and if I can skip it for a week). But October is ez at least.

BarTek: the ones who reserve the places for first, I think. It's FEM, remember, but of course we won't stop foreign people to come if they have organized their lives, money etc because of Elma.

The dates in May and June are definitely the best (and probably the only) possible ones for me. My army begins in 11.7, so very likely I can't come after that.

The only "orange" dates within these two months are at the beginning of June, because I've got some school-related stuff there, which means I couldn't stay for the whole week.

May 2005
1) 30. - 7. (630e)
2) 7. - 14. (630e)
3) 14. - 21. (630e)
4) 21. - 28. (630e)

June 2005
5) 28. - 4. (630e)
6) 4. - 11. (880e)
7) 11. - 18. (880e)
8) 18. - 25. (880e)
9) 25. - 2. (880e)

I talked with Finnish players and the common opinion is that one week is too long. Maybe 4-5 days would make it. Of course people could come and go whenever they want but it's not easy to organize the travelling when anybody leaves the place when he wants it. Well maybe the owners of the cars would decide the leaving time...

But date option 16) is the first week when we can rent the cottage for shorter time than week. So actually we should choose [summer AND 7*x days, where x is 1,2,3,...] or [autumn & x days, where x is 1,2,3,...]. Math stuff.

Last time we played football, psy and MP made a walking tour and of course the normal grilling, talking, sauna. That big cottage we are going to rent has 2 bicycles, maybe we could arrange some kind of cycling contest. Drop some plastic apples around the yard and then you have to collect them by bike (we could draw some routes to ground). You can try as many times as you want if you put the apples back. Also the try must be filmed so somewhere has to be watching and filming you when you are trying a new record.

I made 100 questions to FEM02 for quiz but we never had it. At least I won't ask the questions - in English :].

Ye, yours is different, I got it.

The irl Elma thing sounds really funny and dangerous, lets do it! Spiral anyone ;D. Me and my digicam with a 512meg memory card are ready to film!

And some footy would be nice too. Naaw what else?
