At least I want to learn English and web is just another possibility to learn it. It's much better to have this teaching in one topic than in every topic. martin himself writes "wot" and then whine about BarTek's "surtain", paradox.

Mick: thanks to get this immediately to off-topic. Nevermind.

People who don't use proper punctuation, capitalizing, etc. are not at liberty of complaining about other people's grammar. It's the excact same thing.

i think the difference in that is that i was abreviating and bartek was making an honest attemp at spelling, thus the reason for pointing it out

I can mention something to GuyB, don't get mad at me for this please? :)

You write "properly" when you're supposed to write "probably". Now, this may be confusing for people who has English as their mother tongue (I don't think it is very confusing for the rest of us, as we see these mistakes all the time).

Hmm, is this referring (among others) to me?
If so, I can tell you that I accept that people make mistakes, I just wanted to help out GuyB, so that he may not be misunderstood.

The allowed amount of nit-picking should be proportional to the amount of time used to write whatever.

For example: on IRC; grammar-correcting is non-existant, because people write things very quickly and typo(e)s are unavoidable.

Similarly; here on Mopolauta for instance, posts are generally written quickly, but still you can read quickly through your text after finishing writing and correct the worst mistakes.

And last; in articles submitted to the Moposite, the authors have a lot of time on their hands, and probably want to make a good impression. Texts with bad grammar and typo(e)s aplenty impress no one.

If your English isn't very good in the first place, obviously no one should complain. That's just rude.

if you want to learn what they teach in school, you are purely stupid to go to school.

"people who have English as their native language" :)

no such thing as "mother tongue" .. except for physically in their mothers' mouths ;)
as yes there is, mother tongue is a common english expression and it was very correct of sveinr to use it
