How long can you hold your breath?

Post by Mawane »

So, I start: 2 minutes 30 seconds.
I was in hot water, dunno why but I can stay longer when water is hot, and at the beginning I didn't thought to beat my own old record: 2 min 8 sec. (12 years old). At the end, I really, REALLY, needed air, but I said to myself: I can stay longer! Come on!. Finaly, I reached 2 min and a half, but i almost died (maybe exagerate, but that was I thought). I took my breath after during at least 5 long minutes, haha.
Try to beat my record.

i had exactly 2.30 too... i've already written it in "IRL hoyling" thread i think.
but i didn't die, i just hoyled some days. tried once and got over 1.30 and thought, wow that's kinda good but i think over 2 mins is possible when i get 1.30 so fast, and so i tried some times and got 2.12 and then 2.18, and finally reached 2.30 and then i stopped :P

if you want to hold for longer, max tip here: take lots of really deep breaths before you go for attempt.

I do like: Hold breath once, when it get s hard, stop; hold breath twice, when it get s harder, stop --> at third try just keep going ;P
Seems like the lunge is capable to adjust quite quick

funny this tread, i wanna ask ppl: why is it sooo much easyer to hold your breath here, vs in the water?, its like in the water you cant do like even 50% of the time as in the air.. hehe

2:10 in the air
old record from a vacation under water: 49 sec im smoker yes ._.

1) In water there is higher pressure on lungs
2) It takes some energy to be underwater, in air you can conserve the oxygen much better

had some 2 min after bathing vacation, dunno what it is now.. (to drunk to test)... anyway it's the feeling of beeing under water that makes it hard to hold your breath. If you lay in the top of the water the pressure is pretty much the same..

when went swimming with scoal, me and a couple of friends had ez breath holding contest. i found a quite nice style: hyperventilate (very deep, and pretty quick breaths) for about ten seconds before starting, then just lie face down in the water, floating like a dead guy, totally relaxed to the max. not only is it effective, but it's also quite nice. floating there, everything's silent, everything's smooth.

anyway i think my best was 2.42.35 or sach, we did like 10 rounds, i think i won 4. that 2.42 was my best time, and i also won with it, however i did not win on my second best time. (some 2.3x) ez beaten by a guy who has smoked for faking forever.

anyway, try that hyperventilating dead guy style, tis nice.

also, people have died from hyperventilating too much and then diving or sach. you airate you blood, making your body think it has enough oxygen when in fact you're running out. oh well, ez worth risking death to win breath holding contests. be safe.

This is not good to do. It only removes the breathing reflex (the reflex that tells your body that you want to breath). Though your body doesn't feel like it needs to breath, it still needs air. It doesn't make you capable of holding your breath longer than normal. This is bad because if you do this and push yourself a little extra you will faint. You will probably not die, but it's not good to faint. You might suffer from some minor brain damage etc.

actually holding your breath for a long period of time in general is not good for you. But taking deep breaths before hand is sort of like inhaling extra oxygen and does help you hold your breath for longer. Reason is is because you get more oxygen to the muscles and your brain in your body and if you hold your mouth full of oxygen too your body will use that as reserve. Trust me we have a game here in canada where you hold your breath under tunnels and i've tested both methods. Breathing heavily a few secs before hand and balloning your mouth with oxygen and just not breathing heavily and just keeping your mouth normally filled with oxygen. First way works better.

Ever since you made this topic, it has been "held", and just cause you found out that it's wrong now, don't try to blame it on others. No one edited your topic. - It was wrong from the beginning.

funny you should mention that because I have had dreams about holding my breath underwarter and then being like wtf am I doing and being able to breath underwater. Just getting the oxygen outa the water like fish do. Probably could do some pretty cool stuff if i could breath underwater.

Was watching tv (Lost, of course) and like randomly noticed how slowly my heart was beating. I decided to try holding my breath, just to see if my low pulse would result in some new sik time, and sure it did. 3.04.16.

reaching 2.30 I felt totally fine, but coming up on 2.45, my body started trying to inhale, but I was still "blocking" it (Trying to figure out exactly how I do it, but I honsetly don't know). Anyway, my goal then was 3 minutes, and when I reached it, I tried going for 3.10 but just couldn't. But still, nice to break 3 minutes.

Next goal is 3 minutes and 20 seconds (200 seconds)
