What exactly are the "killers", anyway?

Post by zworqy »

The Elma Online wiki is currently being translated, and I have realised that the word "killer" for the death objects in Elma can't be tranlslated directly, and doesn't quite work untranslated either, so what the hell should it be called instead?

Are they saw blades? Or what?

same with Battles.. e.g. saying : "når du starter en battle ..." in danish just sounds stupid. But saying : "når du starter en kamp ..." or what ever sounds just as stupid.

Translation is gay

ya I guess it's a saw blade like object that causes death to any biker that hits it with his head or tires. Killers is a good name for it or spikes.

"spike ball" -> spikboll
"battle" could be "level" as well, I guess. Ez translate level.

Yeah in French, "battle" would be kinda same as "fight", which is stupid. For "killer", it would be "tueur", which is like... murderer :D

I suggest "dents de scie" maybe?

the battle and killer thing sounds pretty ok in german, cause we use many english words without translating them.

I think both killer and battle works just fine in Norwegian, I've never heard or seen anyone use another word for either of them.

Translating into words that nobody uses is far worse than not translating at all, as noone will understand what you are talking about; including people who have played since the game was released :)

Perhaps make a wiki page for killers as well, so that if people dont understand, they can just check it out? Isn't that what wikipedia is all about, anyway? 8)
