When something floats on top of water it will "force away" its weight. When it is on bottom of water it will force away its volume. Since nuts and screws weigh a bit, but haven't that big volume, then the water level will get lower.

if the head is 9 cm and the tail is the same as the head this means the tail is also 9cm
so far head and tail together = 18cm.
it then says that the tail is half the length of the body, tail = 9cm so body must = 18 cm, this means that the fish is 36cm in length, this is further inforced wen he says the body equals the head plus the tail which is 18cm as we know already,
therefore fish = 36cm, in length

Head: 9cm
Tail: 9cm + 1/2body
Body: Head + Tail = 9cm + 9cm + 1/2 body
1/2body = 18cm => Body = 36cm
Tail = 9cm + 1/2body = 9cm + 18 cm = 27 cm
Fish: Head + Tail + body = 9cm + 27cm + 36 cm = 72cm
Tail: 9cm + 1/2body
Body: Head + Tail = 9cm + 9cm + 1/2 body
1/2body = 18cm => Body = 36cm
Tail = 9cm + 1/2body = 9cm + 18 cm = 27 cm
Fish: Head + Tail + body = 9cm + 27cm + 36 cm = 72cm

Huh? What is the "head part of tail"? Why is x = 18 + x/2? It doesn't say anything about half of the entire fish (I assume that's what you mean by x), anywhere.zworqy wrote:Doesn't make sense...Jalli wrote:Body = 36cm

Fish don't have torsos, a fish body is what's between the head and the tail. And the whole fish can't be head + tail. Just imagine a fish that's just a head and a tail... there's got to be something between there.zworqy wrote:head part of tail = the part of the tail that was as long as the head

Imagine that this is a fish:
(‾‾‾X)
^^ This part is the body.
yeah, its 72, and the fish is split into 3 parts, Head, Body and Tail...whether or not this is aqua-anatomically correct doesnt matter, they could be called anything.

All the following is ONE riddle:
A) I am white's first move in the game of kings I have how many choices?
B) Number of ways of winnings 0s and Xs
C) "As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives. Every wife had seven sacks, every sack had seven cats, every cat had seven kitts. Kitts, cats, sacks, wives, how many were going to St. Ives?"
D) How many rings not owned by elves?
U = (CD) + (AB)
U = The answer
Please use BODMAS, also spell your answer, for example 2 would become two. And lastly good luck!

ok i have now sat here and tried to work it out for about 2 hours and there are some things that arnt clear and that are not definate.
B is an open question, there are 209088 possible ways to win 0's and X's, but that is dependant on every move, but this question does not define what answer is needed,
C as i said before is quite obviously 1
A i will assume you are talking about chess there are 400 possible opening
moves. Where a move is defined as both the black player and white player moving a piece. If a move is defined as just one player making a move,then there are 20 possible opening moves. yet again another open question, and it may not even be chess at all
D still not sure, cant be bothered finding the book to count it, it also does not say at what point you want this taken at, caus they held a different number of rings at different times
and finally its the equation that gets to me, (in new zealand we use BEDMAS) but im sure it means that same damn thing. another i have just noticed as i type this is, why does the equation start with U= im sure that all the equations we did in school were X=, unless of course over there you use U= or in fact it is just there to confuse me or there is more to it than there seems, and actualy now by looking at the equation some more, the order of the AB CD is kinda wierd, shouldnt it be (AB) + (CD) i suppose it the same whichever way you put it, just a little weird if you ask me,
damn that last 5 minutes was beta than the last 2 hours, but shit, this riddle has got me stuck, i need hints and clarification and i need it fast
cheers

as i said in new zealand we got BEDMAS, its a order for working through equations it goes; Brackets Exponent Division Multiplication Addition and Subtraction, of course it doesnt matter wether mulitplication come before division or if subtraction comes before addition, but the rest of the order matters,
viatork - he said how many rings where not owned by the elves, it says at the start that x were giving to kings of mean and x to the dwarf lords and shit so they arnt held by the elves, therefore the answer is not 17
i personally think that the answer has nothing to do with the equation and has something to do with the order of the letters and the mentioning of BODMAS, this is standard, why should they mention it otherwise, this "BODMAS" must be part of the answer???

ok this riddle is getting to me, i just cant get it outta my head
A = 20 There are twenty possible moves in chess when it is your first turn.
B = 8 There are 8 possible ways to win in TicTacToe. ( i have the other answer is not needed)
C = 1 Only one person was going to St. Ives.
D = 17 Three rings were given to the elves, seven to the dwarves, nine to the humans, and one was forged in Mount Whatever. Add all the ones the elves do not own and you get 17.
U = (CD) + (AB)
U = (1 * 17) + (20 *
U = 17 + 160
U = 177
or another answer i get is 185
this is because i think white has 21 moves as there first move caus the dude can always give up, if giving up is a move then
U = (CD) + (AB)
U = (1 * 17) + (21 *
U = 17 + 168
U = 185
but personally i dont think that is right, sorta to easy

Maybe you should know that literally hundreds of people have been trying to solve this riddle for months, and no one has made it. The guy who made the riddle (his name is Owen), is a bit... weird. He makes some very good riddles some times, but most of them make no sense, and you spend most of the time reading them wondering if all the grammatical mistakes and typos are subtle clues of some sort.
Pretty much everything you're doing here has been tried again and again a long time ago already. Keep trying to solve the riddle if you want, but I doubt any of you are going to get it (no offense).
edit: speling
