Replay cutter

Post by simon_labroue »

Hello everyone.

Recently I made a small replay pack for archive, some replays are nice to watch, but becomes annoying/boring at the later parts.

I'm aware that there are programmers in the scene, maybe some is up to the challenge to build a simple replay-cutting external program, e.g. input the time of the cut at the command line then the rec is saved back, dropping the later half. That's it.

Sounds like a great challenge? :)

i guess it should be quite possible to do though i don't know how is encoded the .rec file.
Didn't ribot make a site about that a while ago? is it still up? link anyone?

still, you could make a video with your recs, would be easier to watch (you wouldn't have to have elma installed) and easier to cut parts...

still, interesting idea

Hey, BoneLESS! :)
Been a long time, isn't it?

Yep, I've gave some thought about the video idea...
but ultimately I don't want the thing to be weighing multiple GB...

Because if someone has got 2560x1600 resolution and want to watch at 60 fps...
then he be better download the little pack of replays! Amazing recs, like TAPC2DBO.

Have you seen it? I've posted it here two months ago, but it's like nobody saw anything... :(

I have a vague memory of me creating a topic about the exactly same thing few years ago but the idea wasnt that appealing since some work and stateedit and voila a new wr. But maby the anticheatingsystem has improved since then, would be quite nice actually to have recs of just specific parts of the levs.

Don't know about this, anticheat is not perfect, not at all.

Let me state it this way:
it's an end-of-replay cutter.

I don't know what exactly you thought it was, but certainly not a replay joiner.
Anyway, I don't care if people here like the idea, but about programmers' interests.

Cool, now I can take AH WR :D

Well, I like the idea but I am not a huge programming machine so I couln't do it :)
I only did some games with GM, and Director for 9th grade's programmation course (which was nice) and a multiplications game on my TI-84. Oh, and a program which calculates prime factors of a number. May be useful.

Just by curiosity, how much big can it get? :)

the highest prime factor it can finds before lacking of memory is 105,619. However, if your number has more than one prime factor over 325 (I think the first one is 331 though I'm not sure) then it won't work.

why cut a rec?

if end is boring... just press esc. and if end is boring.. the rec is boring.

I see no use of all for it. and as someone said. if wanna show specific parts make a video out of it. :wink2:

I also thought bout this when I read the topic, So if someone can make a replay cutter, why shouldn't they then being able too make a joiner for makin invisible cheating. Don't think a cheater would bother about doing this even though it wasn't the idea of the program

guess it would be impsy to joing 2 replays so that the moment wouldn't be noticable

you maybe think its some kinda lag on shorter levs, but on longer levs it would be impsy. Prolly impsy anyways, with the time, moment and speed perfection.
